Arpoador is a region located on the southern zone Rio de Janeiro, in a small peninsula between the popular beach neighborhoods Ipanema and Copacabana. It is not officially recognized as a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro but a very popular place for tourists and locals to walk and have a drink.

Botafogo

Botafogo

Botafogo is a middle class bayside neighbourhood extending inland from the beach area and between Copacabana and Ipanema in one direction and downtown in the other. Botafogo is much closer to touristic sights like Cristo Redentor, Pão de Açúcar and Santa Teresa than beach neighbourhoods like Copacabana, Leme, Ipanema and Leblon which face the Atlantic Ocean.

Copacabana

Copacabana is one of the reasons why people fall in love at first sight with Rio. It is located in the south area of the city and boasts a world’s famous beautiful half moon shaped beach called “Princesita del Mar”. The beach is four kilometers (2 1/2 miles) long and the stage on which people swim, surf, jog, make sand castles, sunbathe, and play volleyball.

Ipanema

Ipanema

Ipanema, founded in the year 1894, is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most admired, elegant and luxurious neighborhoods. It is a classic point of bohemian  Rio. Unforgettable songs like Girl from Ipanema, by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes were born in the bars here.  Ipanema is located in the south area of the city between Leblon and Arpoador and one of the main tourist spots in Rio, for foreign tourists as well as for Brazilian ones.

Leblon

Leblon is the most affluent and exclusive neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, being the home of very rich and famous people. The neighborhood is located in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, between Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Morro Dois Irmãos and the Jardim de Alá canal, bordered by the hip and trendy neighbourhood Ipanema.

Leme

Leme

Leme is a petite and upper-middle-class neighbourhood with a quiet disposition and calm atmosphere along Rio’s souther coast, bordering Urca towards the Guanabara Bay, Botafogo onto the back and Copacabana towards the Atlantic Ocean. Leme beach and neighborhood start at neighborhoods Rock (Pedra do Leme) and stretch up to Av. Princesa Isabel (that’s where Copacabana starts).
