Hiking Tour (uphill) in the Favela

Hiking Tour (uphill) in the Favela

Description

To get a better understanding of the sociological background of the Brazilian society a visit to a favela is not to be missed. With this tour you’ll get an inside view of the daily life of the neighborhood, the social organization, sewage, water, electricity systems, housing, architecture in a labyrinth of stairways and alleys  and much more, all accompanied by a local resident/guide.

The visit is all done by foot, by the time you’re ascending, you will enjoy impressive views of Rio from a different angle. The panoramic views  include the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, the Lagoon Rodrigo de Freitas, Christ the Redeemer and the Sugar Loaf mountain. Getting to the top of the hill the hike continues through a path through the jungle which offers even more impressive views. Before the end of the tour we stop by a local restaurant where you’ll get a delicious lunch.

This tour is social responsible, part of the profits are reversed to social actions in the neighborhood and all the guides are born and bred in the favela visited.

The tour  includes an English speaking guide (who will meet you at an agreed meeting point in Copacabana), short hike in the jungle, lunch in a community based restaurant. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and use mosquito repellent. Minimal physical condition required (much steep steps).
